A high number means people are leaving your site as fast as they log on. Your goal then is to decrease the bounce rate of your website to increase your topic.
What is a bounce rate? 
The bounce rate is the percentage of visitors that go to your site, probably stay awhile and then exit, leaving your links untouched.
They were probably brought there through a search engine or they probably found your website by clicking on a link. When this happens, it's not good news for you.
