A few days ago, I got one of my sites earn the most traffic ever in one day due to someone stumbling (submitted to StumbleUpon) one of my posts. It definitely is one great day because it's a good thing I was able to prepare for it unintentionally.
Unintentionally because hey, who'll ever know there's going to be a surge of traffic that will come during that day. But that's the idea, it's important to always be prepared. Here are my tips on how you can make the most out of StumbleUpon-induced traffic or just about from any social bookmark sites.
- Follow up with great content
After that surge in traffic, keep the momentum by keeping on posting, longer than usual if you may, relevant and interesting content. I've heard that visitors from StumbleUpon are more likely to subscribe to your blog compared to other social bookmark site users like Digg.
- Follow the links of those who have left comment on your post
Remember that they chose to contribute to your blog through leaving a comment, it's nice to reciprocate. Visit their sites and leave comments on those posts that interest, you.
- Rinse and repeat what prompted a stumbler to submit your post
If one post worked for one stumbler, see what features of that blog post caused a person to submit it to StumbleUpon. Most probably, it's a list of how-to's or sources on a certain niche. Write more of those.
Have you ever had great StumbleUpon days? Care to share what makes stumblers yearn for more?

Thanks for these great tips, Noel!
