Alex Ion of SocialPacks shared a great post on how do you know if it'd be great for your blog, especially profitable, if you add AdSense ads. Here's what he has to say...
There is no general answer for that, other than try it and see if it brings anything back. It’s all about the content you are writing, about the niche of your blog. Take “diabetes” for example, high payouts, ads are blending in (content related) extremely well and your click through (CTR) is higher than the general because the visitors are violently asking for more and more information. It’s a win-win situation to add Adsense, rather than trying to find your advertisers directly.
Regarding when do you know that AdSense is not good for your blog monetization..
When Adsense is paying very low or when you do not get any conversions because something is up with their algorithms and the ads won’t cover what your site is about, you can take it off for a while and try something else.
In summary, it depends on your blog's niche and how much AdSense pays for the clicks your blog generates. I'd include factors like if your site's traffic is composed of a high percentage of AdSense-blind visitors, say Internet marketing and search engine optimization topics. The traffic size of a blog can help determine, too, whether your blog's better off with Google AdSense or other ad networks.
