Cafepress tries to surmount the difficulty of coming up with the best method to serve relevant ad for its affiliates with a tagging test. TopicAds is the result of this tedious project, which offers relevant ads for each search done.
"The new ads pulled up product offers based on tags. The blogger or Web site would type in a list of topics they wanted their display ads to feature products on -- for example "cocker spaniels" or "California Democrat politics." Then the ad would dynamically pull similarly tagged merchandise offers from the database."
And because of Cafepress' tagging technology, TopicAds are even said to be more relevant than what Google Adsense will display.
"Results so far show that on average TopicAds get 23% higher clickthrough rates than traditional banners and those clicks convert 12% better than other banner clicks."
What will Google Adsense have to say about this? Any Cafepress affiliates who can attest to this tagging success?
